“Why so serious?!” That’s what The Joker said, and that’s what a lot of people think about music especially ROCK music. Why does it have to be so serious? Well, it doesn’t. Bands like SukuS are more interested in girls and Rock N Roll. Which is totally fine and it’s the type of music I prefer to hear sometimes. Sometimes you just wanna ROCK and forget the world.

The band was kind enough to send me their Album, so I’m going to be kind enough to tell you about it.

“Live For Today” sets the tone for the album. It’s none stop rock from beginning to end. It starts out with a dirty guitar riff and after a verse or so goes into this huge guitar solo. So, right off the bat, the band is saying, “We’re not messing around, we’re talented and we’re going to show you right away at track one and we’re not going to stop until track 8 is over”. The guitarist, Dr. Lo, gets the spotlight for a good while, but it then ends with Brian Weebz chilling rock vocals singing “We live for the day…”.

The album continues with track after track of fun, party hard rock music. With face smashing guitar solo after face smashing guitar solo, this band doesn’t mess around. They do slow it down for a few minutes with “Darkest Night”. I think this is the song where the lead singer’s vocals really get to shine, especially during the beginning mellow part. Mellow part?! Yes, they have a soft side people.

The album is wrapped up with a song called “Lost Love”. Which is actually one of my favorites off the album. I like the melody that the guitarist plays and the drum beat (The drummer by the way is fantastic throughout the album! He’s solid and adds that extra kick to the music (pun intended). He has the perfect jam playing style that is needed for a band that does a lot of guitar solos… the fills and drum beats during the solos hold it all together. Sometimes drummers don’t get the recognition they deserve…). It’s probably the most “pop” you’re going to get from SukuS. The song ends abruptly leaving you wanting more, then that’s it, the album is over. Fans are left hoping that their next album comes out soon so they can hear more! Or, you could just play this album again and again.

To hear what SukuS sounds like, you can search right here at the IndieShows Blog for “sukus”. We’ve posted about these guys before and we have an mp3 posted in one of the blogs about them. Or, if you’re lazy and don’t feel like searching just go to their MySpace.

Great review. But I’ve gotta offer up a correction.

Dr Lo = bass player aka Mr Matt. The man responsible for all those great guitar solos and licks is Ragencobra. Yeah I know… why can’t anyone go by their real names anymore. So says me, One Angry Swede !

Other than a few song titles / lyrics that miss the mark at being humorous and instead come off as juvenile - this is a great cd if you’re a fan of guitar rock. And if you’re not, well the band name tells you what you can do….
